The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center commemorates the sporting achievements of baseball legend Yogi Berra. There is certainly no lack of glamour here, but the museum management wanted to add a striking digital age element and entrusted Responsive Spaces with adding an interactive showpiece for permanent display. We teamed up with the LWZ character designer team to create a digital baseball game experience with a pinch of Yogi Berra's famous wit and charm.
Facing a large high-resolution video wall, museum visitors find themselves in the position of the pitcher in a virtual baseball game. Informed visitors will notice the striking resemblance of the batter with Jackie Robinson and recognize Yogi Berra's playful smile under the catcher mask, recognizing a famous moment of the 1955 World Series, which is still hotly debated in today's professional circles. Visitors are challenged to throw a soft baseball against the video wall. Lots and lots of latest technology measure the direction and speed of the throw in real-time and process these data to create corresponding reactions of the players. Real baseball rules apply. Throwers who achieve a »three strikes out« will be rewarded with the deep wisdom of a »yogiism« - one of Yogi's famous sayings that are still part of the American cultural heritage.
