Back in Time Prague is a unique interactive exhibition that takes visitors on an unforgettable journey through the turbulent history of Prague. Across several thematically designed rooms, defining eras and key figures of the city come to life through state-of-the-art media, lighting and sound effects, and interactive elements.

Time Machine

The journey begins in the fascinating time machine created by the inventor siblings B&T – two characters developed exclusively by Responsive Spaces, with their personalities, backstory, and even T’s costume designed specifically for this experience. In a specially staged room – visually styled like a space station and filmed in the decommissioned Zwentendorf nuclear power plant – the adventure kicks off with a vibrating floor, lighting effects, and an impressive soundscape. Large-format screens introduce the story before visitors crash-land directly into medieval Prague.

Ancient Prague

In the room dedicated to the city's founding, the mythical prophetess Libuše tells the tale of Prague’s origins. Animated scenes on multiple screens and a centrally placed fountain guide visitors impressively through this early era. Libuše continues the story with the legendary knight Horymír, a key figure in Czech mythology. The dramatic climax is marked by the appearance of his legendary horse, Šemík.

King Charles IV and the Golden Age

In the reconstructed private chamber of Charles IV, the king’s vision for the city in the 14th century is brought to life. A 5 x 2.5 meter holographic stage uses the Pepper’s Ghost effect, combined with hidden speakers, to create an immersive experience. Visitors witness how Charles IV and his contemporaries, Peter Parler and Jan Očko, left a lasting impact on Prague.

Astronomical Clock

The next room is dedicated to the creation of the world-famous Prague Astronomical Clock. Inside a replica of the clock, animations and powerful sound design explain the origins and workings of the masterpiece. Four interactive touchscreens invite visitors to explore individual mechanisms and assist in the clock's completion.

Golem

In a moody dungeon setting, the legend of Rabbi Loew’s Golem comes alive. The story begins with animated figures of Emperor Rudolf II and Johannes Kepler guiding visitors through the tale. Later, Rabbi Loew – with the help of the visitors – brings the Golem to life. The four interactive elements of earth, water, air, and fire are activated together, leading to the experience’s highlight: a five-meter-tall animatronic Golem impressively awakens. As the rabbi tries to calm it, the visitors make their escape from the room.

5D Ride

After escaping the Golem, visitors find themselves in a modern 5D cinema – and in the middle of a high-adrenaline ride through various chapters of Prague’s history. A wild carriage ride takes them through the great fires of the 16th century. A submarine dive plunges into the dramatic flood that destroyed the Judith Bridge. The journey ends abruptly – in a Spitfire fighter plane during World War II.

Czech Uprising

A dramatically staged room with a bunker atmosphere presents the end of World War II and the beginning of the Velvet Revolution. The space is divided by a transparent gauze curtain and a barricade. As the experience unfolds, the curtain opens, inviting visitors to step into the other side. Projections, eyewitness video accounts, and a gripping sound design immerse visitors in these emotional historical moments – enhanced by lighting effects that vividly convey the contrast of eras.

Fragments of the Modern Age

The final room builds on the atmosphere of the Velvet Revolution, beginning with a sea of candlelight. Visitors then encounter nine exceptional individuals who shaped Prague in the 20th and 21st centuries across science, culture, and society. Alternating mirrors and displays create a striking interplay of reflections and animated life stories. Surrounded by surround sound, the space becomes the emotional finale of the exhibition.

Back in Time Prague blends historical storytelling with modern technology, creating an exhibition that informs, inspires, and immerses – for a broad audience of all ages. History has never been this exciting.
